State award presentation:
A gallery opening and ceremony will be held Sat. May 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Tempe Camera Repair, 530 W. University Dr., Tempe. Enjoy a gallery of large-size prints of selected winning photos as well as free snacks and refreshments. Projected images of winning photos and a ceremony will be held as part of the Arizona Press Club awards party at 6 p.m. at Sat. May 31 at The Duce, 525 S. Central Ave, Phoenix. PHOTO OF THE YEAR: MARK HENLE, ARIZONA REPUBLIC- Sister Elizabeth Carey leads the burial service for Juliana Taylor at the White Tanks Cemetery. Every Thursday, volunteers and inmates arrive to lay the deceased to rest. The west valley cemetery is the resting place for the poor, the homeless and the unclaimed. This photo also won the general news category in the statewide contest.
